Landlords

The Good Landlord Charter is a free and voluntary service available to all residential landlords in Greater Manchester. The Implementation Unit works closely with landlords to provide guidance, advice, resources, networks and events to encourage landlords to join as Supporters and meet our criteria to become full Members.

Landlords will be supported by the entire Implementation Unit to meet our Membership criteria.

Friend of the Charter

Friends of the Charter work with landlords, property agents or tenants across Greater Manchester. They can be from a range of sectors, including landlord services, the VCFSE sector and the wider landlord supply chain. Friends of the Charter are not landlords, and they won’t have a landlord-tenant relationship.

They will be supported in their work to help landlords of Greater Manchester become Good Landlords by having access to resources and networks. They’re not assessed against our Membership criteria, but they advocate and support its aims.

Tenants

Tenants of Greater Manchester are the main reason the Good Landlord Charter was created. The Charter’s goal is to improve the rental standards for landlords and tenants of the region. The Charter’s Implementation team will achieve these goals by supporting landlords to aim for higher standards than the minimum they are required to meet by law.

By working with residential landlords and property agents to go above and beyond legal requirements, the Charter can improve the overall rental experience for tenants.

Is your home covered?

More than 240,000 homes across Greater Manchester are represented by a Good Landlord Charter Supporter. You can find the list of our Supporters on our website to see if your landlord is registered.

If you want your landlord to go above and beyond legal minimum requirements, invite them to join the Charter and be recognised as a Good Landlord. The charter has a dedicated tenants' section on our website, providing information and resources for tenants. It’s important to know your rights as a tenant and what it means to have a Good Landlord.
