There is a reason why actions speak louder than words. Actions are guided by values. The Charter is more than a checklist—it's a shared commitment to doing housing better. And with the combined efforts of the Implementation Unit, Good Landlords, and partners across Greater Manchester, we’re setting the standard for what good looks like.

At a recent team away day, we sat down together to better understand the values that are important to each of us as individuals and as a team:
Hope
Humanity
Openness
Knowledge
Collaboration
Inclusion
Authenticity
Compassion
Goals
Coupled with TDS’s overall values of Fairness, Customer-focus, Collaboration, Teamwork, and Making a Difference, we are using these team values to guide our approach to our work.
Our away day recognised that for the Charter to truly succeed, it also requires alignment with the values that good landlords hold.
Values from Good Landlords:
Integrity – Upholding affordability and fairness by being transparent about costs.
Inclusivity – Ensuring that everyone, regardless of background or circumstance, feels welcome and respected in their home.
Responsiveness – Listening and acting swiftly on tenant concerns, from repairs to communication, ensuring homes are responsive to people’s needs.
Responsibility – Creating private, secure spaces that tenants can truly call home and maintaining high standards of safety and decency.
Supportiveness – Recognising that a Good Landlord’s role extends beyond bricks and mortar, offering understanding and help where appropriate.
Professionalism – Committing to well-managed properties and consistent, high-quality service.
Community-mindedness – Understanding that good housing underpins strong communities and acting with that broader social purpose in mind.
These values are in the seven criteria categories of the Good Landlord Charter: Affordable, Inclusive, Private & Secure, Responsive, Safe & Decent, Supportive, and Well-managed. When these values are put into practice, tenants thrive, communities flourish, and landlords gain trust and respect.
The Implementation Unit is here to work collaboratively with landlords and tenants, with compassion and openness. Our support is guided by knowledge, inclusion, and the shared goal of improving renting in Greater Manchester..
