Landlord Development Training

When private sector landlords join the Charter as Supporters, they work with their professional advisor to demonstrate how they meet each of the criteria that apply to the Private Rented Sector. 

Criterion 19 is to 'demonstrate accreditation or training, or use an accredited managing agent.' This requirement is part of the Charter to ensure that those who are providing homes for people in Greater Manchester have demonstrated that they understand their legal obligations and have sufficient awareness of the role and responsibilities of being a landlord. 

Demonstrating accreditation 

Many landlords will have already gained an accreditation before joining the Charter. We will work with landlords on a case-by-case basis to advise if their accreditation is suitable to meet this criterion. 

If however, a landlord (or their agent) does not hold an accreditation, we have developed a Landlord Development course to allow them to meet our requirements without spending money on an external course. 

Overview of the Landlord Development training 

The Good Landlord Charter Landlord Development Course takes landlords through the basics, from pre-tenancy, through to setting up, managing, and ending a tenancy. It also looks at the updated Housing Health and Safety Rating System. The course is available online, to be completed at a time that suits the individual, via a series of videos, booklets, and quizzes. 

What landlords need to do to complete the Landlord Development training 

Steps to complete the Landlord Development training: 

1. Register as a Supporter of the Good Landlord Charter 

2. Speak to your professional advisor 

3. Read the booklet or view the training videos online 

4. Complete the quiz 

5. Receive your certificate
