The Charter at Parliament

On Tuesday 27th January, Tom Fisher and Claire Vibert from the Good Landlord Charter went down to parliament. We were hosted by Stockport MP, Navendu Mishra, to brief Greater Manchester and national MPs about the work of the Charter.

Westminster

With the Renters' Rights Act casting a national spotlight on housing, this was a great opportunity to let MPs know about the free support available to Greater Manchester's landlords. We talked MPs through what the Charter stands for, the high standards required to meet our Membership criteria, and the impact it has on people living in their constituencies. And crucially the free advice and support we are providing to landlords.

For MPs outside of our area, we explained how the city-region is leading the way in improving the rental experience for tenants. We made sure to direct all MPs' attention towards nationally available tools, like My Housing Issue Gateway. Who were glad to hear about this resource and expressed how helpful this would be for their own casework but also as a signposting resource.

It was a fantastic day hearing insightful perspectives from MPs and their constituents, and how the Charter can support Landlords and Tenants alike. There’s a clear commitment to raising standards across the board, and we’re looking forward to continuing to support MPs and advisors to spread the message.
